I relocated from California to Hugoton, Kansas for the project, rented a house and began settling into the small 2800 person town. After working nearly 6 or 7 days a week and promoting the company and the project within the local community, and applying my 30+ years of experience to save them more than a million dollars in foundation construction costs, etc. I was asked to fly to St. Lewis for a meeting on a Monday morning. That was just several days after returning from my first real vacation since joining the company, 5 days away after seven months. I elected to drive the hour and a half to Garden City, KS from Hugoton as the cost of the airfare to St. Lewis was hundreds of dollars less than if I flew from nearby Liberal, KS. As usual, my extra effort was saving the company money. That was on Sunday, May 6, 2012. I arrived in St. Lewis late evening, rented a car and drove to the Drury hotel in Chesterfield, MO. The next morning, Monday May 7, 2012, I went to the lobby early for my supposed 8:00am "meeting". by 8:10am nobody had showed up so I began contacting the people I was told I was would be meeting with. My boss, the project manager and expat, Victor Grille, texted back that he would be there shortly. He arrived about 10 minutes later. He took me to a conference room in the hotel and told me the company was "letting me go". The excuse was that I was "not a good fit". I was replaced with an expat. I was also left to move out of Kansas and settle the lease on my rented house using my own funds, with no assistance from the company. The company offered a small severance but only if I signed documents declaring I would never say anything negative about the company. I refused. My management and many of the people I interacted with were Spanish speaking and mostly expats. I don't speak Spanish, and am a blonde, blue eyed white man. My performance was outstanding and I saved the company a lot of money (over a million in foundation work for their digesters alone). I never received any negative concern related to my job performance. I believe Abengoa is a money transfer company. What the author wrote in this article is exactly correct. Abengoa targets countries with governments that will issue low interest loans, grants or loan guarantees. They put the money into high interest accounts and make money off the interest spread. They also negotiate above market prices for the "green" products their projects produce, guaranteeing them a profit. They also believe all contractors are dis-honest "change order artists" out for nothing but to rip off the company. They treat contractors very poorly. I was included in contractor negotiation meetings, I witnessed it first hand. They also with-hold payment, thus increasing the interest yield on their borrowed money by using a complex system of delayed vendor payments called "PPB 180". In my 36 year career as a professional engineer and major projects manager, I have never experienced any company that by design profits from these kinds of unethical business practices.Douglas S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08116936286006287177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4761811945465851288.post-74726608217310052662014-05-06T12:42:56.678-07:002014-05-06T12:42:56.678-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Douglas S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08116936286006287177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4761811945465851288.post-23473894545489934072014-05-04T12:49:13.898-07:002014-05-04T12:49:13.898-07:00MalagaMalagaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03667701455454341357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4761811945465851288.post-86289947133443154452014-05-04T12:47:08.012-07:002014-05-04T12:47:08.012-07:00OUTSTANDING WORK!
